The Maldives is home to several dolphin species. The most commonly encountered on sunset cruises are spinner dolphins — named for their acrobatic spinning leaps — which gather in large pods of 50 to 200+ along the atoll channels as daylight fades. They ride the bow wave, leap beside the boat and put on a show that never gets old.
Our captains know the regular dolphin channels and follow the pods without chasing or disturbing them. We watch from the boat — no jumping in, no flash photography. The dolphins choose to approach; we just position ourselves where they like to be.
