Larger catamarans and motor yachts anchor 50–100 m from a sandbank and tender guests in. The Saxdor 400 GTC's hull depth means it glides over shallow water and holds just off the bank's edge — guests wade ashore in ankle-deep water, nearly dry. It's a completely different arrival.
The styled picnic setup
Every sandbank landing includes a shade umbrella, rugs and cushions, a cool box with fruit and drinks, and space to swim on both sides. Day Charter Maldives offers private day charters aboard a Saxdor 400 GTC — a 12.5-metre Scandinavian-designed sports yacht carrying up to 12 guests at up to 40 knots, with an enclosed air-conditioned cabin, bow sunpads and a wide swim platform. It departs Hulhumalé, 10 minutes from Malé airport.

Fresh morning, calm water. Cold drinks and pastries aboard. The captain checks the tide table — we time the arrival for low tide when the sandbank is at its widest.

The Saxdor 400 GTC has a shallow draft — it glides over the shallow water beside a sandbank and holds just off the edge. Guests wade ashore in ankle-deep water rather than tendering in from 100 m away. It's a completely different, more intimate arrival.
Approximately 15–20 minutes at cruising speed. Standard excursion boats take 40–50 minutes for the same route. The extra time goes to your sandbank stay.
Sandbanks are public ocean — no single operator owns one. However, we time and choose our sandbanks specifically for solitude. On a weekday morning, you will typically have the bank entirely to yourselves for the duration of your stay.
Yes — the sandbank is one of the most popular proposal settings in the Maldives. We can arrange flowers, lanterns, rose petals, a 'Marry Me' arrangement, and a photographer positioned in advance. See our proposal page for full details.
Low tide morning (typically 8am–11am) is best — the bank is at its largest and the light is perfect for photography. We check the tide table for your date and schedule the departure accordingly.
We bring a shade umbrella as standard. Sandbanks themselves have no natural shade — it's flat sand — so the umbrella is essential. If you'd like additional shading, let us know and we'll arrange it.
