The Maldives is home to several dolphin species. The most commonly encountered on sunset cruises are spinner dolphins — named for their acrobatic spinning leaps — which gather in large pods of 50 to 200+ along the atoll channels as daylight fades. They ride the bow wave, leap beside the boat and put on a show that never gets old.
You may also see bottlenose dolphins, spotted dolphins and occasionally Risso's dolphins in deeper water. Sightings are never guaranteed — these are wild animals — but success rates on our regular dolphin routes are very high, typically above 90% during calm conditions.
Best conditions: calm seas and clear skies produce the best sightings and the most spectacular sunsets. December to April is the most reliable window, but dolphins are present year-round.

A speedboat sunset cruise starts around $300–$600 for 2–3 hours. A luxury yacht cruise with canapés and drinks runs $1,000–$2,500 for 3–4 hours. Combining a full day with a sunset-and-dolphin finale ranges from $1,500–$4,000. All prices are per charter, not per person.

Typically around 4:30–5:00 PM to catch the golden hour and sunset. The captain adjusts timing based on the season's sunset time so the light is always at its best.
A standard sunset dolphin cruise is 2–3 hours. You can extend to 4 hours for a more leisurely pace, or combine it with an afternoon of snorkelling and sandbanks for a full-day experience.

Absolutely — children love dolphin cruises. There's no swimming involved (you watch from the boat), so it's suitable for all ages. The spinning leaps and bow-riding are unforgettable for kids.
Dolphins are present in the Maldives year-round. December to April offers the calmest seas and clearest sunsets. The southwest monsoon (May–October) can bring choppier conditions but dolphins are still reliably found in sheltered channels.
